Indications for use
Situations in which the patient is unable to meet his/her complete nutritional needs by the enteral route, such as:
a. Patients with inability to absorb nutrients through the gastrointestinal tract b. Extended bowel rest c. Patients undergoing high dose chemotherapy, radiation, and/or bone marrow transplantation d. Preoperative bowel rest e. Severe stress (moderate trauma, 30-50% total BSA burns, neurological trauma, renal failure)

a. Patients NPO for tests greater than 3 days b. Ventilator patients in respiratory failure c. Burn patients when enteral nutrition is not possible
